History
During the Battle of Mallorca in August 1936, Sa Coma was a landing point for Republican ships. The headquarters and a hospital were built on the Cases de sa Coma estate. [3] After the victory of the Francoist troops supported by Italian fighter planes, about 500 Republican soldiers were buried in a mass grave under the northern end of Sa Coma beach. [4] [5] At least three other mass graves are believed to be in the area. [6] Since 2017 there have been talks between the government of the Balearic Islands and the Generalitat de Catalunyaabout opening the grave and reburial of the remains as well as the erection of a memorial stone. [7]
Beach
Beach View (July 2007)
The sandy beach of Sa Coma extends over a length of 800 meters and has an average width of about 30 meters [8] , sometimes up to 60 meters. It was awarded the Blue Flag for its good water quality . The promenade runs directly behind him, which merges into the waterfront promenade of the smaller tourist town of S'Illot to the south .
The beach is considered not without danger due to undercurrents that are often underestimated. [9]

This circular talaiot (Spanish: Talayot ), i.e. megalithic defense or watchtower, is located in the north of the town on the corner of Carrer Pomeres and Carrer Roses . These are the remains of a conical building with a diameter of 12.5 metres. The walls are 3.5 meters high and 2 meters wide and were built from large blocks of stone. A number of outbuildings adjoin the main talaiot in a honeycomb manner and are surrounded by an arcuate perimeter wall. In the lower area there is a converted natural cave whose function could not be clarified. [10]
