Campos (formerly known as Campos del Puerto ) is a Spanish town and municipality located in the southern part of Majorca , in the Balearic Islands . On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea , this municipality limits with those of Lluchmayor , Porreras , Felanich , Santañí and Las Salinas .
The Campanero municipality includes the population centers of Campos, La Rápita ( sa Ràpita ), Alto de la Rápita ( Dalt de sa Ràpita ), El Paraíso ( sa Vinyola ), Las Covetas ( ses Covetes ), La Sorda ( sa Sorda ) and The Palmer ( is Palmer ).

Toponymy
The origin of the place name of the municipality is prior to the Muslim conquest. The name comes from the Latin word campus caked in Mozarabic plural ending -os , in fact it is a vast plain covered with fields and swamps. A whimsical folk etymology is that campus is a contraction of field and ós bears bear's reach . This is what explains the figure of a brown bear standing on the town's coat of arms, although there have never been bears on the island of Majorca.

History
The town was founded at the beginning of the 14th century , derived from the Orders of Jaime II of Mallorca , when the main towns of the island were established. The origin of the place name of the municipality is prior to the Muslim conquest .
Economy
The economy of this municipality has been linked to agriculture since its foundation . Its lands are fertile, which is why, until a few years ago, an agriculture based on irrigated crops was developed .
Currently the two coastal nuclei have been developed from the old recreational nuclei of the town's inhabitants.
Places of interest
The church of San Julián was built between 1858 and 1873. The building is neoclassical in style . the bell tower from the 16th century and some older chapels from the 18th century have been preserved . Inside, the large vault and the luminosity of the white walls with golden details stand out. The parish museum is inside the ecclesiastical dependencies.
The town of Campos had an urban defense system made up of seven square-based defense towers that protected the town from enemy attacks by preventing access to the interior. They are distributed within the historic center and were built in the 16th century .
The municipal auditorium was the church of the old Campos hospital. Built in the 16th century , it is Gothic in style with ribbed vaults.
In the 17th century the convent of San Francisco was founded. It is worth noting the baroque façade and the altarpieces inside. The cloister has an interesting historical and artistic value.
The oratory of San Blas is one of the first churches in Majorca, since it was built after the conquest preserving a primitive Gothic style of small dimensions. The oratory has a garden, formerly a cemetery.
The Campos Velodrome , popularly known as Sa Pista , was one of the most important in Spain . It was inaugurated in 1935 and is currently in disuse.
Trench beach has a great natural and landscape value, since it is a sandy area with fully intact dunes. Currently, the conversion of this area into a natural park is being studied.
The natural area of El Trench - Salobrar de Campos is the area of greatest ecological value in Campos. Many birds visit and live in this area. The rush , the tamarisk and the sea fennel form a special landscape of high interest.
The only Natural Hot Springs/Baths in the Balearic Islands: San Juan de la Fuente Santa Spa .
Its reddish soil makes it possible for the caper plant to grow naturally (and makes its summer landscape typical). Along with the town of Llubí , they are the only two towns where they occur naturally.
